Become A Realtor | Getting Your Real Estate License

If you want to become a Realtor, there’s really only one way. You have to get your real estate license. But what does that entail?

Every state has its own laws pertaining to real estate licensure. The requirements to become a Realtor are different from one state to another, so be sure to check with your state’s licensing agency or ask a local broker. For the most part, however, there are age requirements and educational requirements. And of course you have to pay the required state fees.

In some states, it is necessary to get your real estate license before joining a brokerage. In other states, you must find a sponsoring real estate broker before you can get a license.

Most states require some level of real estate training in order to get your license and to practice real estate. Again, how much training you need will depend on your state’s requirements. If you live in a state that requires a sponsoring broker, your broker should have all the information you need to get started and become a practicing Realtor.

Finding a real estate broker to sponsor your real estate training can be a challenge in itself. Ideally, you should choose a broker that offers a lucrative earnings plan as well as ongoing training after your receive your initial license. You’ll also need to take continuing education classes every year in order to maintain your real estate license.
